Gambling & Casinos - Russian Duma Announces New Gambling Law
The Russian State Duma has announced a new bill to regulate gambling casinos. The bill will be read before Duma members on February 10th, at which time it will officially take effect.
In a press conference on Tuesday, the Duma’s Tourism Committee Chairman Valery Draganov read the bill’s highlights to reporters. He started by saying that the bill will ban those under 18 years of age from frequenting the gambling casinos.
The bill’s writers intend to force smaller gambling casinos out of business, and, to this end, have proposed a number of minimum restrictions on the size of gambling casinos.
“The bill will certainly cause the number of gambling venues to reduce. Only big establishments will be able to stay afloat,” Draganov said.
Under the new law, gambling casinos will have to occupy at least 800 square meters, and will have to have at least 10 tables and 40 machines. Gambling financiers must own at least 25 casinos, with a total of no fewer than 1,000 machines.
In addition, the new law orders that casinos must be located at least 100 meters from the following institutions: schools, residential apartments, child- care facilities, health care centers, sports stadiums, gyms, government buildings, and religious organizations.
